CBSM Sermon Video “Ecclesiastes: I Can’t Get No Satisfaction”

Outrageous night of worship and the Word last night! We played a short clip from “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” for our “Annual Lighting of the CBSM Building”. Students were shocked. That was awesome. Nothing in the world like startling students! Also last night we had two brothers from CBSM (the Beaselys bros), lead our time of worship. At CBSM, we believe that leadership is more about making leaders than making followers. This sophomore-junior combo did an excellent job of leading us to the cross of Christ in our worship! Then we spent about 50 minutes in the Word as we took a look at the book of Ecclesiastes. Ecclesiastes is about as real and honest as it gets. Solomon admits that he did everything he possibly could to pursue pleasure in everything he could get his hands on. You won’t believe some of the things that this man did to trying to find satisfaction. Check out the message, and let God convict you of things you think will satisfy you…when only Jesus will!

CBSM Sermon Video: Proverbs 10-20 “Get Smart: When Life is Ridiculously Random”

God was crazy on the move last night as we went through Proverbs 10-20. We kicked off the sermon with another “Jay Walk All-Stars” video, and got to ask tough questions to the smartest man in the world for our game. Then we moved straight into worship, and just praised Jesus for who He is and what He’s done. Then we moved into our message where I tried to communicate that the reason God wrote Proverbs in such a random style is because our lives are ridiculously random! And because our lives are random, we have to be on our toes, think quick on our feet, and be on our guard for momentary decisions and choices we make. Wisdom from the Proverbs has to be ingrained in us, so we must soak in it. In order to communicate this, I let the students decide on the fly…which Proverb they wanted me to preach. Those chose Proverbs 18. I went with it. You can listen to see what happened next.

CBSM Sermon Video on Proverbs 1 – 9 “Get Smart”

We had an incredible worship service last night as we kicked-off our new series on the book of Proverbs called “Get Smart.” We showed a hilarious video from the “JayWalk All-Stars” collection of Jay Leno asking common people super easy questions…and they barely get any right. We played a quick game called “Smartest Woman Ever” which went great. Our worship was strong and Christ-centered, and our study in Proverbs was life-changing. Proverbs is a book on the importance of gaining daily knowledge and living wisely on a daily basis. But knowledge and wisdom both have a point to it…Jesus Christ! We gain all of our knowledge in view of Jesus, and we live out all of our wisdom for the motivation of the glory of Jesus. We are to fear Jesus as our Lord in both knowledge and wisdom (Prov 1:7, 9:10). Jesus is the voice of wisdom calling out (Prov 8:1-4, 1 Cor 1:24, 30). And Jesus is the Son of the Holy One (Prov 30:4). In summary: we need to live as smart and as wise as we possibly can because that is what pleases Christ and brings glory to Him! Check out all of our resources on this page for more on Proverbs 1-9.

Last night was our CBSM Iron Bowl 3. All of our students came in their Alabama or Auburn apparel…sporting their team colors. Bama sat on one side and Auburn sat on the other side. It was one of our highest attended nights ever. We played Bama vs. Auburn games like: best student section, best dressed team, best dressed fan, best touchdown dance, and best locker room half-time speech. The students did GREAT, but what I love about our ministry most is that…our students got way more passionate and pumped during the times of worship over the times of the games. The sang their hearts out to Jesus in songs like “One Name Under Heaven, Salvation is Here, and With Everything.” And I was overwhelmed with the response from our sermon last night on Proverbs 21-31. One girl received Christ through the gospel. Another girl came so close, but wasn’t quite ready. Many expressed their conviction of sin. And overall…Jesus was glorified and magnified. Praise God for a strong night at CBSM!

Go ahead and be thinking to yourself: “In what ways are humans like God and not like God?” What does it mean that we were created in God’s image? Did God fully make us like Him? Can we fully become like Him? Did He share everything true about Himself partly with us? Can we become more like Him if we’re already in His image? Continue reading
