“Simon says, ‘Read this blog.’”  Yeah, I love playing Simon Says with students.  I don’t do it often because it gets old and the students learn all my tricks very quickly.  “Simon says, ‘Raise your arms in the air.  Now put your arms down.’”  Those who raised their arms in the air stay in the game, those who put their arms down are out of the game.  My personal favorite is “Simon says, ‘Jump up.”  That’s a sure fire way to put everyone out of the game…because Simon never said to come back down!  When thinking through the doctrine of sin, we must understand that an unsaved person is a slave to sin and will do whatever sin tells them to do.  Continue reading

Storyline# 03 – Genesis 3 – Reverse the Curse!

Something I’ve always wanted is a talking pet. Have you seen those cats and dogs that can talk by mimicking their owners by saying something like “I love you.” That is really cool to me…but it also freaks me out! Their voices sound so different than their normal pet noises.

When thinking about the scene in Genesis 3, we can’t imagine this speaking serpent as simply some “copy cat” (pun intended!). Continue reading

Storyline #2 – Genesis 1-2 – Being Human Rules!

Free files for youth pastors:
Humanity rules! Napoleon Dynamite is a fictional movie character that is known for his jeans tucked into his ski boots, teased and curly red hair, and hilarious movie lines that were adored and quoted by teenagers across our entertainment riddled country. When Napoleon took a liking to something, he brought back one of the ever popular retro sayings by exclaiming something like, “Tater tots rule!” The same can be said for humanity by looking at Genesis.
Is humanity something far more than we’ve thought if we’ve used phrases like: “I can’t help that I’m forgetful, or sinful, or full of mistakes. I’m only human. Gosh!” What does it really mean to be human? How did God originally intend humanity to be and live? If we want to live for God in our skin, bones, eye balls, etc, then we must know what God has commanded from us from the beginning! Please read Genesis 1:26-2:25. Continue reading

Christocentrism #4 – Genesis and Colossians – Jesus Christ is the Center of our Sanctification

He was one of the coolest guys I ever knew. This dude totally had it all together. He was a great athlete, all of the girls swarmed him, his intelligence was stellar, and he just had that laid back attitude that everyone enjoyed. During the prime of his life, this close friend of mine was in a tragic car accident. From the accident, he no longer had the physical agility to play sports, he no longer had the attractive look, his intelligence was severely altered, and his personality had changed drastically. He was still the same person God had created him to be but very distorted. Continue reading
