No Small Group Questions for this Study

This is by far my most political sermon ever. This study just happened to fall on the night after President Barack Obama was elected into his second term as El Presidente. I saw so many crazy reactions on twitter of doom and gloom, depressed attitudes, and outbursts of anger…that I felt like we needed to let the Bible set the record straight. This study is on God’s big plan, not political agenda. It is on God’s ultimate hope. It is on the one big way God plans on unveiling the gospel of Jesus to the entire world…and spiritual realm. Do you know what all of that sums up into? Check it out!

The Study in a Nutshell:
Want to hear something creepy? Zombies are HUGE right now in our culture! Not only are there tons of zombie movies and video games, but there are all kinds of groups out there for zombies. A zombie is a body that is brought back to life but with no soul, passion, purpose, or goal. I’m afraid that our churches today are filled with zombies. People that have been brought back to life from sin, but still with no passion, purpose, or goal in life. We need to bring our churches back to life!

As we are going through the rest of the New Testament starting with Romans, I want to bring these NT churches back to life. I don’t want to just give the key verse, the main theme, or the outline of each book. I’m sorry…that can be boring! Instead, I want to take a look at each of these churches, their surroundings, their city, their culture, their people, their problems, etc. Then take a look at why the NT authors wrote what they wrote, and why the Holy Spirit inspired them to do so. CBSM Series Re-Launch: “Bringing THE CHURCH Back To Life”

CBSM and Friends! We’re going to re-launch our current series as “Bringing THE CHURCH Back to Life.” How are we going to do this? I’m glad you asked!

First of all we’re going to serve a Chips N Salsa Buffet from 6:00 – 6:25pm so yall can come early and hang out. Free drinks too, yall! Then we’re going to be looking at each of the different churches in NT as we look at each NT book as a whole each week. In other words, this Wednesday we’re going to look at the Church at Rome from the whole book of Romans. What was Rome like during that time? What was the church going through? What made Paul write what he wrote? Why did the Holy Spirit have Paul write those specific truths, topics, themes, etc? What does it all mean for our church and our Christian lives today? We want to bring the Church at Rome back to life so that God can continue to bring our church lives and relationships back to life!

So here’s what you do, copy and paste the link of this blog article and put it on your Facebook timeline, Twitter feed, Pintrest, and MySpace if you’re still lame enough to have that one! Get the word out. Flood the social media world. Invite and bring friends like never before. Let’s bring our church lives, relationships, and experiences back to life!

There is a huge difference in the today’s understanding of missions and the Bible’s description of being missional. We normally think of missions today as a trip, an offering, a budget, and an option. Check out this study to see how the Bible describes what it means to be missional, the differences, and the attitude!

So for real…what makes a church, a church? Is any kind of a Bible study really a church? Can any campus Christian fellowship basically be a church? Is the church really all that important as long as you have biblical teaching and Christian fellowship in your life? Does God really place all that high priority on the church today? What makes a church, a church? Jesus said that He would build His church and that wherever two or three are gathered in His name that He would be in the midst of them. Does that mean that a church is present whenever two or more Christians get together? In this study, we learned about the marks of the church. God said that He would be glorified throughout every generation through the church, and that the church is the fulness of Jesus. So, we better know what for real constitutes a church! Check it out: What makes a church, a church?

The most mind-blowing grand opening I’ve ever heard of is Chickfila. You’ve got to Google it and read up on it. But even more mind-blowing than that, is the Grand Opening of The Church! God did some crazy miracles, thousands were saved, and the people actually changed and became a loving church. It is a fascinating story that should motivate the way that we live together as the church of Jesus Christ. So here we go, pay attention to the miracle, the message, and the ministry of the church.

There is nothing like going to a college football game! Having to park 2 miles away. Everyone dressed in the same colors. Walking through the tailgating smells of grilled meats and the glows of satellite TV’s. Feeling the energy as you enter the stadium. Experiencing a common bond with thousands of others during the game. Cheering as loud as you can and going crazy and no one thinking a thing about it! And its all ultimately about what? You got it! 22 men on a field in super tight, shiny pants that make skinny jeans look like hipsters are sagging. All with the goal of moving an inflated leather bladder across a line of paint? Don’t get me wrong, I love college football! I’m just saying…college football ain’t got nothing on God’s goal for the church! The energy, the passion, the commonality, the emotion, the excitement, the bond, the message, and the outcome. We’re talking a gathering of people hyped up because the God-man stepped into their world to save them. So here’s a study to get you excited about the church by sharing the same view and passion that Jesus has for His church!

Haggai small group discussion questions coming soon…
You’ll be shocked by the message of Haggai. God literally tells His people through Haggai that His temple in the Old Testament is more important than their homes, their jobs and careers, their food and drink, their finances, etc. How does that apply today since the OT temple no longer exists? We find in the NT that the OT is fulfilled first in Jesus, then the church, and third the body of the Christian. So what do we gather from that? Worshiping Jesus with His church as a Christian is not a priority in our lives…but it is THE priority! Check out this study.

Imagine 150ish teenagers getting together to go crazy in worshiping Jesus and then to get quiet in hearing from His Word. Our night together in Acts 2 was insane! At the start of the new year, I believed God was leading us to take a look at the start of His church in Acts 2, and then the start of our year as a student ministry in 2011. Listen in to see what we believe are God’s plans for CBSM in 2011.
