CBSM Sermon Video – “SEX TALK: For Beauties and Beasts”

This is our second and final sermon in our SEX TALK series for this February. This message is all about how super important gender roles are to God and in His Word. God created us in specific gender with specific roles to each gender. God did this because He was reflecting Himself (different roles within the Trinity), and He’s reflecting His Gospel. Through this message, we want to turn-out biblical BEASTS (dudes) and BEAUTIES (ladies) who want to glorify Jesus through their gender. Godly guys need to be MENNN, and godly girls need to be LAIDIESSS. So feel free to check out anything on here, and use it for your ministry or life.

CBSM Sermon Video “CBSM on Cutting: When Pain Feels Good”

Since we hit the tragedy of suicide hard last week, God directed us to take one more week in the hard issues of teenage life…and talk about cutting, self-injury, self-abuse, and self-harm. God surfaced so many struggles in the lives of the students through this sermon. I literally stayed for an hour after the service just counseling teens who were hurting and admitting struggles. I was up past midnight responding to all kinds of texts and emails over the topic. I believe many times, youth ministries aren’t coming close to scratching the surface of the real issues in students lives. And at other times, the student ministries who do focus on all the immediate issues…aren’t pointing them to Jesus thru the gospel. There has to be a real balance here of being proactive and reactive. Proactively letting the Holy Spirit deal with issues from the Word, and reactively preaching the issues that we’re aware of when they become urgent. Feel free to check out and use all of our media on cutting and self-abuse for your own life and ministry.

CBSM Sermon Video: “CBSM on Suicide: The Let Hope Rise Movement”

We have had a devastating week with two teens in our area ending their own lives by suicide. There have been at least two other teen suicides in the past two months, and statistics tell us that there are another 100 attempts for ever suicidal success. THIS HAS GOT TO STOP! So we’re going to do everything we can at CBSM to start a movement on spreading the hope of Jesus Christ. We did our best to hit the topic of suicide head-on last night and talked straight-up about why it happens, how to help, and where hope can be found. Feel free to check out and use all of our resources for your life and ministry dealing with suicide as well.

CBSM Sermon Video: CBSM in 2011

Imagine 150ish teenagers getting together to go crazy in worshiping Jesus and then to get quiet in hearing from His Word. Our night together in Acts 2 was insane! At the start of the new year, I believed God was leading us to take a look at the start of His church in Acts 2, and then the start of our year as a student ministry in 2011. Listen in to see what we believe are God’s plans for CBSM in 2011. For more info and downloads, check out http://storylineframework.com/2011/01/06/cbsm-service-cbsm-in-2011-acts-236-47/

CBSM Sermon Video: The Virgin Birth – Was Mary Naughty Or Nice?

Tonight was one of the best nights that God has ever given us! We kicked off the service with a couple of Elf Yourself videos. There was even a surprise video a student did themselves with me and Justin Bieber. Needless to say, I revoked their church membership for that. Then we played a hilarious “gift wrap your friend” game. Our worship band led in some super-epic Christmas carols mixed in with modern worship choruses that went perfect together. I’ve never heard it done that way. Loved it! Then the message was on the importance, significance, and life-changing truth of the Virgin Birth of Jesus. Definitely check out our stuff on all this…and feel free to use it yourself! ktl 2010 – 09 – preaching with Intros, Conclusions, and Problems for your text

KTL 09 – Preaching Intros Conclusions and Problems for Your Passage (mp3)

This was our last “in class” KTL session.  We spent the first part of the class hearing from the four guys who are preaching the Job passages.  With them, we went over their passages truth statement, how it points to Christ, New Testament correlated reference, application statement, and main sermon illustration.

I taught the students on how to introduce, show the audience their need to listen, and conclude their sermon…during the 2nd half of the class.  Introductions are absolutely critical to engaging your audience, arresting their attention, and keeping their attention.  Many times people use introductions as a way to introduce the topic they’re preaching that morning.  I rather like to use an introduction story to introduce the first main thought in the passage I’m preaching.  I feel like if we’re just introducing a topic, then people automatically assume that we’re preaching a topic.  But if we introduce the first major thought of the passage we’re preaching, then they will be encouraged that we’re preaching God’s Word and not just some topic on life.  Introductions should always be a story…and a personal story if at all possible.  In the introduction of your sermon, you want to start off with a story that would connect with their world (from your personal life), then you’ll lead them to the Word, and then the end of the sermon is leaving them back in their world.  Introductions should be engaging, somewhat shocking, humorous, and absolutely attention getting.  Introductions should usually only last around 20% of the total sermon time.   Continue reading
