Study Summary:
I have seen my fair share of Youth Ministries Gone Wild. I remember one white water rafting trip I preached at… I met a 13 year old girl there who acted like it was normal she had 3 different online identities. One being a woman in her 20’s, another as a woman in her 30’s, and another a woman in her 40’s. All to play with the minds of men! But I’ll never forget preaching my heart out on the Gospel the last night. And at the end of the sermon during the invitation, a girl raised her hand to ask “Can we just go back to our cabins now?”

I want to encourage you that as we look at Corinth “Sin City” and the Corinthian church “The Church Gone Wild”, that we can’t forget about our own sinfulness and just put blame and shame on them. We have our own struggles. I have my own problems. We deal with our own sin. Jesus is the hero, and we are the failures apart from him. Here we go… Continue reading

TRAFFICKED: CBSM Against Teenage Trafficking

You’ve most likely seen the movie “Taken” before. If not, is a powerful movie of an American, teenage girl getting kidnapped in Paris by a sex and drug trafficking ring. It has come to our attention that there are numerous teenagers living in our area (Huntsville, AL) that have been trafficked to here. We have been informed that they have been moved here from American cities and foreign countries for the purposes of sex and drug trafficking. We want to do whatever we can to stop it, prevent it, and minister to those teens who have been involved in it. This Saturday at 11am, we are going to hear from Lynn Caffery who is running “The Studio” in Huntsville that reaches out to these teens. We are looking forward to hearing her story, vision, ministry, and heart. You are more than welcome to join us in our student building at 11am for this urgent ministry.

Here’s the letter we sent our CBSM parents concerning this opportunity:

CBSM Sermon Video – “SEX TALK: For Beauties and Beasts”

This is our second and final sermon in our SEX TALK series for this February. This message is all about how super important gender roles are to God and in His Word. God created us in specific gender with specific roles to each gender. God did this because He was reflecting Himself (different roles within the Trinity), and He’s reflecting His Gospel. Through this message, we want to turn-out biblical BEASTS (dudes) and BEAUTIES (ladies) who want to glorify Jesus through their gender. Godly guys need to be MENNN, and godly girls need to be LAIDIESSS. So feel free to check out anything on here, and use it for your ministry or life.

CBSM Sermon Video “SEX TALK: What Every Teen Wants to Hear” (by Zach Terry)

Our book for the month of February “just happened” (in a Divinely sovereign way) to land on Song of Solomon. Bonus! I “just happened” (in a Divinely sovereign way) to be out of town for a conference on the night of this new series start, so our much wiser senior pastor came in to deliver the message “SEX TALK” to our students. He absolutely tore it up. The students loved it. They said, “It was AWESOME!” “It was HILARIOUS!” “It was AWKWARD!” I’m so thankful for a senior pastor who loves teenagers, and who is sincere enough to talk with them about anything. We went super straight-forward with this talk, because the teenagers need to hear it. So feel free to check out how he handled “SEX TALK” to a ton of teens.

It’s the greatest love story of all time!  Every time I hear a Christian say that about this movie, it makes me want to vomit…or smack some sense into them (in the name of Jesus of course).  The Notebook is NOT a great love story whatsoever.  The girl falls in love with a boy, gets moved away by her parents, meets another guy and gets engaged to him, meets back up with first boy, gets into a sexual relationship with him, later breaks up with fiancé, and ends up dying with husband (who is first boy) in nursing home.  That is not a great love story, that’s a story of unfaithful cheating to a marriage commitment.

Relationships, dating, and marriage is always on most every teenager’s mind.  They are in search for a great love story to inspire them.  They need a clear, real, and biblical example of a romantic relationship before marriage.  That’s the book of Ruth!

I see 7 helpful hints (truths) regarding a pre-marriage relationship in Ruth 1 – 2.  Continue reading

My friend just told her, “SHUT UP! You’re all lies. You’ve been cheating on me. You’ve been cheating on our daughter. I’m so sick of your lies!” This was really hard to hear from one of my best friends who married a very poor girl who grew up in a trailer park and didn’t grow up in a loving or very Christian family. He married her, he gave her all he had, he loved her, and he showed her the love of Christ. In return, as a nurse she allowed herself to be wooed by the compliments of a doctor, engaged herself in conversation with him, and eventually found herself meeting him in the private doctor’s lounge for several sexual episodes together. How sick, gross, and nasty is that?

Here’s the truth. Whenever we engage ourselves in continuous sin, we are cheating on God with Satan. Why does that seem to lose its sickness, its grossness, and its nasty effect? Continue reading
