Throwback: How to get the most from your Old Testament Devotions (Genesis 4 – 11)

Throwback – 4 – Humanity – Genesis 4-11

Throwback – 4 – OT Devos – Genesis 4-11 (keynote)

I believe its not only important to preach/teach Biblically and Gospel-centeredly, but its also important to preach/teach strategically. For example, we just started releasing passages for daily devotions to our students. This sermon in our Genesis series not only teaches them Genesis 4-11, but it also strategically teaches students how to get the most out of their Old Testament devotions.

This was my last sermon at CBSM and youth pastor. Actually, this passage (Luke 24) was also the first passage I ever preached as youth pastor at CBSM…almost 6 years ago. We started with on a Christ-centered study through the whole Bible together, and praise God that He allowed us to finish it together. After a lot of prayer, God allowed us to complete our time together in CBSM with these important bookends – seeing all life as Christ-centered. Serving as youth pastor in CBSM has been the best 6 years of my life. I could not be more thankful for my time with those amazing people. They quickly became my life, family, friends, and church. You will all be missed so so so much!

Old Testament Testimonies: CBSM Teens

Here is a quick video of some of our teens who answer 4 questions:
1. What did you think about the OT before we started studying it?
2. How do you feel differently about the OT now?
3. What was your favorite series or sermon from the OT?
4. What is the OT all about?

Malachi is The Final Countdown to the coming of Jesus. We at CBSM have had such an amazing time studying the Old Testament together. Its crazy to hear how our students thought about the Old Testament before the study, how they feel about it now, what their favorite sermon or series was, and how they summarize what they believe the Old Testament is all about. Malachi is a perfect and yet awkward ending to the OT. First, it is the perfect ending. Malachi lays out 6 major themes that all summarize the OT perfectly. Second, it is an awkward ending. In the days of Malachi, Israel thought God was finally bringing His kingdom to them and through them. They were back in the Promise Land, they had rebuild the temple, and the sacrifices were rolling again. But God wasn’t done! The priests were still corrupt. Religion was still dirty. And sin was still rampant. This book is incredible with how God lays out everything one more time what He had been teaching them and what was to come. Check it out!

I was covered from head to toe in mud!  I can barely remember it, but I do have the picture to prove it.  My mom retells the story of how I as a young boy found the garden hose, turned it on, made some mud, and then wallowed around in it like a hog.  To surprise her, I ran up to the kitchen window where I could see her washing dishes.  When she looked at her son, she couldn’t help but laugh because of the mud that covered my whole body.  What a great day!
