cbsm sermon video: “doctrine of providence – you’ve got questions, we’ve got answers”

Our students had tons of questions from the Doctrine of Providence series.  So here is how we answer their super tough questions to this crazy deep doctrine. Here are some questions:

Does God still send catastrophes to discipline nations or people for sin?

How can God use natural catastrophes like earthquakes and hurricanes to cause certain people to have the opportunity to change so that they follow God’s will, but at the same time cause great destruction or death for others that apparently are already following God’s will in the same affected area?

How do you choose between multiple options of good things for God’s will?

Since God has it all planned out, should I just quit applying to so many colleges?

If God already knows what is going to happen in the future, then why does He have a  will for our lives?

If God is in control, then we’re just finger puppets. If God gives us choices, then God is out of control.  Which is it?

Does God have us a specific person for us to marry?

Does God get tired of hearing same prayers?

Why does a sov wise God answer prayers of dumb humans?

If God is all knowing and does not change His mind, how does prayer change His mind?

Our last installment in the doctrine of providence series was on prayer.  With understanding God as providentially in control, and His will for our lives…the question remains: what good does prayer do to change the mind of a sovereign God?  So this message was all about how to pray effectively to make a difference.

cbsm sermon video: “doctrine of providence – how could a good God allow evil?”

In this sermon, we tried to biblically answer tough questions like: How could a good God allow evil? Why would God create Satan knowing he would lead the world into sin? Why would God create Adam with an ability to sin and allow Him to sin knowing Adam would drag down the world with him? If God loves life and hates death, why would God demand death after Adam sinned? If God seemingly loves me, why does He allow hurt, suffering, pain, and evil in my life?

We’re taking a break from our normal Storyline series that goes through the whole Bible, and we’re going to look at the Doctrine of Providence for this month in our Framework series.  I don’t want our student ministry to just be about “love Jesus”.  I also want us to know the truth of Jesus from His Word.  So we’re taking a long, hard look at what providence is and what it means for our lives.  We call this series Framework because we want God’s timeless truths to be the Framework structure that holds our lives, faith, and thoughts together.  We’re tackling super tough questions in this series, so I hope you enjoy it with us!
