CBSM Sermon Clip: “Best Book Ever” Series Summary

CBSM Sermon Video – “Best Book Ever: What’s it really all about?”

This was the first sermon in our doctrine of Scripture series: “BEST BOOK EVER.” Since we just finished up our “Man On The Island” series that journeyed us through the “Doctrine of General Revelation”, “Best Book Ever” is our trip through the “Doctrine of Special Revelation and Scripture.” And that my friend, is an overdose of quotation marks! Through this series, my prayer is that CBSM will be convinced, passionate, convicted, and strengthened in the Christ-centeredness, Authority, Inspiration, Inerrancy, Infallibility, and Sufficiency of Scripture. And not that they would just understand these things theologically, but that they would also live them daily!

CBSM Sermon Video – “Best Book Ever: Q & A (Anything Goes)”

Last night we finished-up our BEST BOOK EVER series through the Doctrine of Scripture with a Q and A Session. We asked our students to text all of their tough questions to a specific email address where our audio/video guys received them in our booth, and put the best/toughest questions on the screen for me to answer off the cuff. We told our students that their questions would remain anonymous just to make sure they knew that they could ask whatever they wanted to and not be scared. We tried to answer the questions that went best with the BEST BOOK EVER series we had just finished, but then any question was fair game. Here’s the questions that we got to cover:

Why are there so many different versions of the Bible and not just one?
How can I persuade my friend about God and about how the Bible is His true and perfect Word? Should I use the Bible for this even though they don’t believe in it?
I am someone who went through something terrible emotionally and physically. I feel like I’m called to forgive this person and help them. Should I? Help!
How can Christians say they have a loving God when they are so against homosexuals loving each other?
What verses do I turn to in the Bible when I’m struggling with depression?
What happens to a person when they die? Does their soul go to heaven/hell, or their body too?
There were other questions, that I just can’t think of right now. So feel free to check out the mp3 to see how we handled these biblically, Christocentrically, and personally.

CBSM Sermon Video – “Best Book Ever: Will it really change my life?”

This is the last sermon in our “Best Book Ever” series. Booooo! So I wanted to conclude it as powerfully as possible…and the INFALLIBILITY of Scripture was perfect for that! Infallibility does not mean “no fallacies” or no mistakes. Rather, infallibility means that Scripture will not fail to accomplish what God promises it will accomplish. So this is talking about the power of Scripture, the ability of God’s Word to change our lives, etc. This is huge because the ultimate purpose of Scripture is not merely to be read or preached, but we read and preach the Scriptures so that we are equipped to live our lives powerfully with, through, and for Jesus. So here you go, one last sermon on Best Book Ever, all about the Infallibility of Scripture in the lives of students.

We had such a crunk night for this message! We played one of our favorite games “Alabama Snowball Fight”, sang some of our favorite songs, and the students really seemed to get the importance of the Sufficiency of Scripture. If you’re someone that needs help in teaching or that needs help in being strengthened in the areas of personal devotions, understanding that Scripture is enough, understanding doctrine, understanding sin, understanding how to correct sin, and understanding how to live in righteousness…then this message is for you!

Our goal on this night night was to train, equip, and prepare our students to defend the INERRANCY (absolute truthfulness) of Scripture now and when the heat gets turned up in college. The Bible is inerrant (without errors) because it is impossible for God to lie (Hebrews 6:18), Jesus said the His Word is Truth (John 17:17), and the Scriptures were written by God (2 Peter 1:20-21). So we at CBSM unashamedly hold to, love, and boldly live the full inerrancy of God’s Word. This sermon explains what inerrancy is, explores the Word for where God claims inerrancy, and takes a look at problem passages where people claim mistakes in the Bible. Check it out!

CBSM Sermon Video – “Best Book Ever: Who really wrote it all?”

Covering the Doctrine of the Inspiration of Scripture was a great night for us! God convicted me that we should spend as much time in the Word as possible that night…if we were going to talk about the importance of understanding that God’s Word is inspired by God Himself! So, we showed a quick 5 minute video to kick-off the service, I think preached for about an hour and ten minutes, and then we sang a couple of powerful worship songs, and then called it a night. I was AMAZED to see how into it the students were…and how God had them listen to His Word for over an hour. God still uses His Spirit to move students to love His Word…and the preaching of His Word!
