This is a Christmas sermon with a huge twist. It may not even sound like a Christmas sermon at first, but then it gets REAL! I honestly believe that people during Christmas focus on “baby Jesus” so much that they lose their awe and worship of the glory of Jesus. We seem to keep Him in the manger over Christmas and not view Him as the resurrected, reigning, and ruling King over the universe. This message will help refocus your mind on who you’re truly to worship this Christmas holiday.

Its time to finish up those Christmas wish lists! We know how to take advantage of those for sure. We know how to ask for the biggest and best gifts possible…within the budget. Sometimes I feel like we treat God like a middle-class God and underestimate His power by the lack of what we ask for! As Christians, our prayers lives struggle, and the struggle is real. Christians throughout all generations have struggled with prayer in one way or another. 1 Thessalonians 3:11-13 is one of the Bible’s most shocking prayer passages for me. I did not expect it to teach me so much on how to pray for the church for real life change! Check out this study, and be amazed by this passage. It definitely has a real interesting twist in it.

This is a CBSM sermon where basically I’m thinking out loud and processing what I believe God has been teaching me over the past year. He’s revealed to me how we are basically an Attractional Ministry and how we lack being a Missional Ministry. I believe that it is biblical to have a healthy balance of both Attractional and Missional Ministry. So check this message here to hear my thoughts out loud on processing through a transition from Attractional to Missional Ministry.

What does it mean to be truly happy? Is it even possible? What if I told you that Paul wrote a whole book to a church on how to experience real, lasting joy…while he was in jail?! Did you get that? The church wasn’t writing him letters to encourage him while he was locked away for sharing his faith. Instead, he was writing the church to encourage them not to lose their joy! Sounds backwards, but awesome! In order to bring our churches back to life, we must learn what it means to experience REAL rejoicing. I was ecstatic when I did this study to find out what rejoicing actually is. Blew my mind! But made so much sense! So check this study out and find out what it means to have true, lasting happiness!

No Small Group Questions for this Study

This is by far my most political sermon ever. This study just happened to fall on the night after President Barack Obama was elected into his second term as El Presidente. I saw so many crazy reactions on twitter of doom and gloom, depressed attitudes, and outbursts of anger…that I felt like we needed to let the Bible set the record straight. This study is on God’s big plan, not political agenda. It is on God’s ultimate hope. It is on the one big way God plans on unveiling the gospel of Jesus to the entire world…and spiritual realm. Do you know what all of that sums up into? Check it out!

Halloween is an opportunity that we get to be someone else…because honestly, we’re not huge fans of ourselves. What we strive for, shoot for, work for, and strain for doesn’t seem to deliver what we’re really wanting. Paul explains why in the book of Galatians. He reveals our natural, sinful tendency to move away to another gospel. So in this study we identified different gospels that teenagers today tend to follow instead of the gospel of Jesus. And we talked about why the gospel of Jesus trumps all other gospels.

Since I’ve been here as youth pastor for the past 5 years, I’m incredibly thankful for the youth pastors God has provided this larger community with. They are true friends, buddies, prayer warriors, loyal to the gospel, and faithful to Jesus. They’ve called me out when they’ve needed to, and encouraged me when I’ve needed it most. This study on 2 Corinthians is by one of my favorite youth pastors in the world: Robert Ekis. I’ve known Robert for the last 5 years as he’s been a youth pastor, church planting pastor, church planting executive pastor, etc. Robert has spoken for me on a bunch of different occasions including middle school worship services, CBSM Beach Camp, and combined worship services. Definitely check out his sermon stuff here, and visit http://www.robertekis.com for more Ekis kinda stuff.

Study Summary:
I have seen my fair share of Youth Ministries Gone Wild. I remember one white water rafting trip I preached at… I met a 13 year old girl there who acted like it was normal she had 3 different online identities. One being a woman in her 20’s, another as a woman in her 30’s, and another a woman in her 40’s. All to play with the minds of men! But I’ll never forget preaching my heart out on the Gospel the last night. And at the end of the sermon during the invitation, a girl raised her hand to ask “Can we just go back to our cabins now?”

I want to encourage you that as we look at Corinth “Sin City” and the Corinthian church “The Church Gone Wild”, that we can’t forget about our own sinfulness and just put blame and shame on them. We have our own struggles. I have my own problems. We deal with our own sin. Jesus is the hero, and we are the failures apart from him. Here we go… Continue reading

The Study in a Nutshell:
Want to hear something creepy? Zombies are HUGE right now in our culture! Not only are there tons of zombie movies and video games, but there are all kinds of groups out there for zombies. A zombie is a body that is brought back to life but with no soul, passion, purpose, or goal. I’m afraid that our churches today are filled with zombies. People that have been brought back to life from sin, but still with no passion, purpose, or goal in life. We need to bring our churches back to life!

As we are going through the rest of the New Testament starting with Romans, I want to bring these NT churches back to life. I don’t want to just give the key verse, the main theme, or the outline of each book. I’m sorry…that can be boring! Instead, I want to take a look at each of these churches, their surroundings, their city, their culture, their people, their problems, etc. Then take a look at why the NT authors wrote what they wrote, and why the Holy Spirit inspired them to do so. Continue reading
