This message is our grand finale of our series “Following Jesus: Through the Gospels.” The main message: because Jesus rose from the dead, its party time! The resurrection is the victory of our faith. We not only wanted to teach the truth of the resurrection, but also communicate the feel of the resurrection. This sermon will hopefully answer many questions for you concerning the resurrection. Did it really have to happen for our salvation? What are some proofs that Jesus really raised from the dead? What does the resurrection mean for my faith? How should the resurrection change the way I live?

Do we really understand Jesus’ death? So many people preach on the physical suffering and pain during His death. Preaching on that only makes us pity and feel sorry for Jesus. But the Bible never tells us to feel sorry for Jesus or pity Him. We are the ones to be pitied apart from Him! When preaching on the physical pain and suffering of His death, it has to be done with an understanding of Him as substitute. In other words, all the physical pain and suffering He went through…was meant for me…was meant for you. God was pouring His wrath out on Jesus as judgment for our personal sin. Jesus became our sin, He became our curse, He took on our punishment, and He paid the price for us. Check out this sermon to understand Jesus’ death and our right response more fully.

David Munoz is a CBSM senior and 2012 graduate of Sparkman High School. He’s been at Capshaw Baptist for most of his life. He plans to attend Auburn University and study business management. If you get to listen to or watch his sermon, you’ll notice that he’s a naturally gifted preacher of God’s Word. He’s been preaching once a year in CBSM since he was sophomore. I absolutely loved this sermon by David. Every year I like to give him HUGE chunks of Scripture to preach. This year was no different as he had a lot to tackle from the betrayal, garden prayer, arrest, and trial of Jesus. It was a very powerful, convicting, and Christ-centered sermon. Definitely take the opportunity to check it out if you get a chance!

Over 10 years ago, I had the privilege of doing a youth ministry internship, Patrick McGoldrick. I learned an incredible amount of youth ministry ideas, tools, methods, and truths. Over the last 10 years, Patrick has always been a phone call away from me. He has always given me his time, his listening ear, and his best advice on youth ministry and life. I have always appreciated Patrick as my good friend and youth ministry mentor. This last December I got a call from a mutual friend of Patrick’s that he had been diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Patrick is taking on this deadly disease as a Godly man of strength and honor. Its incredible to watch his joy increase as his body fails. As you could imagine, tons of churches are calling Patrick up to come and speak for them. We have been blessed to be one of the first to hear his incredible message of his testimony of salvation and suffering. You will absolutely love this sermon, be moved, and you will worship our God who saves and allows us to suffer for His glory!

I hope I will never forget it. Back in the spring of 2008, I had preached Exodus 2 – 4 on the call to be a leader like Jesus. Instead of having our second worship set at the end of our service, we just spent time in prayer. The last student praying in the room was a 7th grader. I walked up to him and asked how I could pray for him. He said he felt a burden and a call to be a pastor. That 7th grader was Michael Harris. Now 4 years later, Michael preaches his first sermon to CBSM. If you’ve ever heard Michael pray, you know that he gets it and he’s deep. You will absolutely love the depth, humor, and application of this sermon. Michael did an outstanding job of communicating God’s Word to CBSM and point them to Jesus!

This is one of the most practical sermons ever at CBSM. Jesus taught this fascinating parable that helps us strategize how to get people to listen to us about the gospel. You won’t believe the type of person that Jesus tells us to be like. Its almost like Jesus forgot to take His meds that day. But we know, Jesus was right on with what He was saying! You also won’t believe that you’ve never heard this parable preached before. Its so simple, profound, and life-changing. You definitely need to check this out, apply it to your life, and then watch the huge things God will do through you because of it.

As a part of our Student Preaching Month, this sermon is preached by CBSM senior, Josh Johnson. Josh is a senior at BJHS, and plans to attend UNA to study marketing. I’ve known Josh for 4 years, and his heart for Jesus, missions, and the lost is unbelievably genuine. I’ve seen Josh brought to tears many times when being convicted of reaching the unsaved with the gospel. It was an absolute honor to hear Josh preach from his heart about the purity of Jesus, the sin of humanity, and the power of the gospel.

Seth Fowler is a junior in high school at East Limestone. He is a long time member of Capshaw Baptist Church. What blew my mind when Seth preached this message is that a ton of his friends from his high school, baseball teammates, and even one of his teachers came to hear him. Their attendance preached his testimony loudly! The place was packed with all the people who’s lives he had touched in a super special way for Jesus. Seth did an outstanding job of preaching the passage, and I hope you get a chance to hear him!

Alex Wakefiled (CBSM and Sparkman Senior) kicked off our Student Preaching Month with this sermon. Alex has been coming to CBSM for just about a year now, and quickly became a strong leader in our student ministry. He is going to Auburn University to study engineering. Alex absolutely nailed this passage with his biblical understanding, and his passion to get it across. You’ll notice how honest Alex is about his life, and how quick he is to humble point everything over to Jesus. We could not be more thankful for God giving Alex to us for this time!

CBSM Clip: What’s The Best Motivation for Your Daily Devotions?

As we talked about Jesus as Prophet, we have to come to grips with the way Jesus speaks into our lives today…through His Word. So not opening our Bibles on a daily basis is like telling Jesus to shut up and not speak into our lives. Its like refusing to go listen to Jesus if He was speaking in your city on a daily basis. Check this clip out.
