We started out this lesson with the discussion question: “In what ways are Jesus and the Holy Spirit alike, and in what ways are they different?” I wonder how many teenagers have asked themselves that question. I wonder if I thought about that at all when I was a teenager. This question isn’t just technical like splitting atoms nor is it too deep like asking about the elements found on the moon. We’re talking about our God! Continue reading

1+1+1=1: The Doctrine of the Trinity Resources

trinityAs I’m teaching my students on the doctrine of the Trinity, I have come across some awesome resources for my to read, study, and learn…and then to communicate it to them in more of their own language.  The best stuff I’ve come across is anything by Dr. Bruce Ware.  He wrote the book “Father, Son, and Spirit”.  He also did a conference at John Piper’s church.  Here are the 3 sweet mp3’s from those lectures.  I promise you…you’ll love them!

Trinity of Persons – Ware Session #1 (mp3)

Jesus and the Father – Ware Session #2 (mp3)

Jesus and the Spirit – Ware Session #3 (mp3)

If you are looking for more resources from the conference, you can go here: http://www.desiringgod.org/ResourceLibrary/ConferenceMessages/ByConference/9/
If you enjoy it…your students will, too!

It was at a Mexican restaurant where I tested them theologically for the first time. I remember one of the first weeks I was here with my student ministry. I asked them the question: “If the Father is God and the Son is God, does that mean that the Father is really the Son and the Son is really the Father?” Most of them answered “yes.” Finally, fourteen months later, I got to talk about that very topic that I first tested them with.

When it comes to understanding God as Trinity, we must understand Him intimately within all three of His persons. We’ll kick it off with God as Father and Son. Continue reading

“Have your read The Shack yet?” That is a question running rampant in both Christian and non-Christian circles today. The Shack is a book written to help people understand one of the deepest doctrines of all Scripture: the Trinity. With millions reading this book, we are seeing a begging and pleading from people to know God better. Continue reading

Go ahead and be thinking to yourself: “In what ways are humans like God and not like God?” What does it mean that we were created in God’s image? Did God fully make us like Him? Can we fully become like Him? Did He share everything true about Himself partly with us? Can we become more like Him if we’re already in His image? Continue reading

One question I love to get students thinking about is “What kind of spouse do you want to live with for the rest of your life?” I want them to go ahead and think of those real important qualities that truly matter as that will affect both who and how they date. If you’re a student reading this, go ahead and do that now… In the same way, God has qualities and characteristics. They are what we call His attributes. Who do you imagine God to be? Do you know what God is REALLY like? God wants us to know Him! Continue reading
