Do we really understand why Jesus HAD to be baptized? Jesus did not need to be baptized to identity with us, but we need to be baptized to identify with Him. Jesus was baptized to fulfill the faults of the nation of Israel, and to identify with His coming death and resurrection. The way we are baptized communicates our belief in God’s judgment for sin, Jesus’ death for forgiveness, and Jesus’ resurrection for eternal life. We don’t get baptized to be saved, but we get baptized because we are saved. But for those who refuse to be baptized, they may be showing that they aren’t truly saved.
