The two deepest, most radical, and power-packed words that Jesus ever said were, “FOLLOW ME!” Jesus never called us to be “Christians” or just “believers.” Jesus called us follow Him as His disciples. Anyone can check the Christian religion box today, and even the demons believe and tremble (James 2). So what’s the difference in a disciple? John 1:35-51 talk about many different aspects of Jesus’ disciples. We absolutely loved this study as a student ministry, and we hope you will, too!

My guess is that Christians normally think Jesus was a cheater when it came to temptation. Most Christians seem to believe that Jesus never gave into temptation because He is God. While its true that He was and is fully God, Jesus resisted temptation totally out of His humanity as He was filled with the Spirit. Jesus could not have sinned because He’s God, but Jesus did not sin because He was the perfectly obedient man. Jesus gave us incredible insight on how to resist and fight against temptation. Warning…this is a deep sermon, but I promise it will give you life-long and life-changing principles to battle against temptation for victory like Christ, through Christ, and for Christ.

Do we really understand why Jesus HAD to be baptized? Jesus did not need to be baptized to identity with us, but we need to be baptized to identify with Him. Jesus was baptized to fulfill the faults of the nation of Israel, and to identify with His coming death and resurrection. The way we are baptized communicates our belief in God’s judgment for sin, Jesus’ death for forgiveness, and Jesus’ resurrection for eternal life. We don’t get baptized to be saved, but we get baptized because we are saved. But for those who refuse to be baptized, they may be showing that they aren’t truly saved. To find out more about Jesus’ baptism and a fuller understanding of baptism itself, check out this CBSM message.

This whole passage absolutely blew my mind! Jesus as a 12 year old is fascinating. He somehow let his parents leave him, still never sinned, amazed the top temple professors and theologians for 3 days, still submitted to His parents, and continued to get smarter, grow in favor of God, and everyone liked him more and more every year. This is the ONLY passage about Jesus’ years from 3 – 29. In fact, Luke 2:52 is the only verse from His ages of 13 – 29! So check this out as we study Jesus’ childhood and understand how it should change our entire year!

You may think you’ve heard it all before. We talk about the birth of Jesus every year as Christians. One of the hardest parts of a pastors job is to find a new perspective on the birth of Jesus year after year, while telling the story like its the first time. I believe God gave me this specific message for our CBSM Christmas worship service. We looked at 5 different perspectives of how to respond to Jesus’ birth in life-changing faith. Through the lenses of Joseph, the Wisemen, Mary, the Shepherds, and SImeon, we saw how each one of them responded to Jesus’ birth in great faith. Check out how the truthfulness of Jesus’ birth makes a huge difference in your life!

Old Testament Testimonies: CBSM Teens

Here is a quick video of some of our teens who answer 4 questions:
1. What did you think about the OT before we started studying it?
2. How do you feel differently about the OT now?
3. What was your favorite series or sermon from the OT?
4. What is the OT all about?

Malachi is The Final Countdown to the coming of Jesus. We at CBSM have had such an amazing time studying the Old Testament together. Its crazy to hear how our students thought about the Old Testament before the study, how they feel about it now, what their favorite sermon or series was, and how they summarize what they believe the Old Testament is all about. Malachi is a perfect and yet awkward ending to the OT. First, it is the perfect ending. Malachi lays out 6 major themes that all summarize the OT perfectly. Second, it is an awkward ending. In the days of Malachi, Israel thought God was finally bringing His kingdom to them and through them. They were back in the Promise Land, they had rebuild the temple, and the sacrifices were rolling again. But God wasn’t done! The priests were still corrupt. Religion was still dirty. And sin was still rampant. This book is incredible with how God lays out everything one more time what He had been teaching them and what was to come. Check it out!

Zechariah is all about making sure that you are putting points up on the board for Team Jesus. Through Zechariah, God instructs Judah to not follow the sinful footsteps of their fathers and families by practicing a lifestyle of repentance. He describes repentance as returning to Him and turning from sin. Check more out about it in these resources.

Haggai small group discussion questions coming soon…
You’ll be shocked by the message of Haggai. God literally tells His people through Haggai that His temple in the Old Testament is more important than their homes, their jobs and careers, their food and drink, their finances, etc. How does that apply today since the OT temple no longer exists? We find in the NT that the OT is fulfilled first in Jesus, then the church, and third the body of the Christian. So what do we gather from that? Worshiping Jesus with His church as a Christian is not a priority in our lives…but it is THE priority! Check out this study.
