Called to Full-Time Ministry SS Discussion (doc)
For whatever reason, God is graciously choosing to bless our student ministry with an extraordinary amount of students who believe they are called to full-time ministry…or starting to sense and consider that call. I’m honestly not sure why. There are nights that I preach the gospel for salvation, and students are called to ministry. Its weird, its crazy, but its happening. Just FYI: the biggest TREAT in this entire post is hearing close to 20 teens talk about God’s call on their life and what ministry they believe they’re called to. Definitely check out the mp3! This is still the same storylineframework blog! I’ve been dreaming so much lately about starting a brand new website specifically for youth pastors. I’ve thought about outsourcing it to someone who knows what they’re doing and how to make it look good. I would want it to look stunning and be very easy to find our resources. So we’d probably have to see entire sermon sets for around $1 and a whole sermon series for like $5. But I’m still thinking and dreaming about that. One thing that holds me back is that I don’t want to hinder other youth pastors from doing their own study so that they can preach the Word of God personally, passionately, and with freshness. Anyways, this would be a website that is an alternative to websites such as simplyyouthministry.com, youthspecialties.com, etc. This would offer resources to pastors and equipping them to preach through the entire Bible to their students in a narrative-based way that points them to Christ, grounds them in gospel, and applies the Scriptures directly to their lives. So anyways, back to the black…I love technology in black. Continue reading

DNOW this year was nothing less than LIFE CHANGING. After coming back from a Small Group leaders retreat with our adults in September, I was convicted to go with the theme of SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES from hearing them share their hearts about their students. So we went with the title: “because You’re mine, i Walk the Line.” Continue reading

I did the worst thing I’ve ever done as a student pastor! If you promise to never do it, I’ll tell you about it. I took three of my students out to eat, and the student I asked to pray for our food was the student who always prays the longest. So when he started praying, I tapped the other two guys and we left him there, praying at the table all by himself in his SIX MINUTE PRAYER FOR SUPPER! It was classically hysterical when he opened his eyes slowly and confusingly looked around, trying to figure out what may have happened to us. I felt terrible. I vowed to those guys that I’d NEVER do that again!
As we’re finishing our “i Walk the Line” series, I have to remind you what it means. While our student ministry is growing larger, growing in knowledge, growing in our witness, growing in passion for worship, and growing in giving our lives to live for Christ…the question must be asked, “Are we growing in our walks WITH Christ?” Are we valuing our time to spend with Him in His Word and prayer MORE? We had tons of students come out for our CBSM Iron Bowl Event. Auburn fans sat on one side, Alabama fans sat on the other. They also coerced (and probably forced) other fans (Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, and other stinky teams) to sit on their side. So we judged them on who had the most on their side (Alabama won that). Then we judged which side came dressed-up the most for their team (Alabama won that). Then we judged which team had the craziest fanatic dressed up for their team (Auburn won that – see pic above). It was definitely the first time I have EVER had a student come to church with no shirt on! At a boy, Seth. Then we had a QB competition (since both Bama’s and Auburn’s QBs are horrendous). We put a girl from each team up in the balcony, and a guy from each team on the stage. We let them battle it out, and the Auburn tigers tore it up putting them over the edge and securing their victory for the 2009 CBSM Iron Bowl. So a shoutout and huge props to my Auburn Tiger students who straight up represented last night!!!
Alabama vs. Auburn is the biggest rivarly round here in these parts. Everybody knows it around here as the Iron Bowl. Well we capitalize off of it here at CBSM. The Wednesday night before the Iron Bowl every year we’re having a little Iron Bowl of our own. Here’s how we go bout it…
We go off a point system, and the team with the most points…WINS (shocker)! The two teams can get points by having the most people on their side. Obviously Alabama fans will sit on one side, Auburn fans will sit on the other side, and they can coerce whoever they want to sit on their side with them (if they’re like a loser Tennessee fan or something). We will also give points for the best dressed team, and the team with the craziest dressed fanatics. Live team mascots such as elephants, eagles, and tigers will also win big points! Continue reading
