CBSM: All-Nighter CANCELED

allnighter1CBSM Parents, Students, and Friends,

I regret to announce that the 2009 All-Nighter has been CANCELED.  We will attempt to reschedule this event.  Thank you all for your emails, responses, insights, etc.  You may be asking, “Why are we shutting it down?”  Well to be honest, this has come from the TOP.  Both Pastor Zach and Mayor Finley of Madison have requested that we not host this event.  I, of course, whole heartedly agree with them and support them.

Prominent city officials have closed schools and have requested for children and teenagers not to congregate together.  We even had one of our own students jogging down Hughes Rd today with a buddy, and a policeman pulled over to tell them to “go home” because they don’t want kids congregating under any circumstances.  As Christians, we take Romans 13 and 1 Peter 2 very seriously (which says to obey our government officials).  We desire to be a church who models obedience to such situations as these.  Continue reading

CBSM loves to get crunkin crazy at all of our events.  This will be our first annual all-nigher.  THIS IS NOT A LOCK-IN!  Lock-Ins are about the most boring thing in the world to me.  All-nighters are totally different.  At a lock-in you play the same silly stuff all night, and by the end you’re in a coma and just staring at the drool dribbling down each others chins from extreme boredom and exhaustion.  At an all-nighter…you never stop!  In the plans are tons of awesome stuff like: a passionate worship service, intense paintball and airsoft battles, competitive bowling, and then some chilled out mini golf.  We’re also pimpin around town in chater buses from event to event!  We have about 100 students coming, we have several parents who are helping to serve, and its just going to be amazing.   Here’s our schedule breaks down: Continue reading

Parents and Students, I can’t even express how stoked I am about this trip!  I was totally excited about it before I left for San Diego last weekend to check it all out, but after having coming back…I’m 1,000 x’s more excited!  I wish we could move it up and just go in May, but obviously we can’t so I’ll just hold my horses till July.

Students and their parents who are going on this trip should be receiving emails from Bart Fowler on this trip.  If you are not, definitely email him at fowlesb@arilion.com or bart.fowler@nasa.gov.  You should already have your $200 deposit turned in by now, and please note that we’ll be having a CALI meeting on Wednesday, May 6th at 8pm (after the student worship service) in the student building.  Continue reading

Storyline #42: Judges 9-12 “Deliverance by Death: Jephthah, Jesus, and You” (Logan Heck Style – Junior in High School)

4 – Judges 9-12 – Jephthah (fillout sheet)

Logan Heck is one of the coolest teens you’ll ever meet.  He’s that kid where he doesn’t care what you think about him, but all he cares about is…you!  This dude seriously loves pretty much everyone.  But don’t let his loving nature fool you, the kid is a beast when he plays defensive lineman for the largest high school in the state of Alabama.  I met Logan just over a year ago now.  He wasn’t super involved in our church, but he did come to our Disciple Now.  There, God radically revamped his life for Jesus.  It was a complete turn around!  Now, we couldn’t keep Logan away from the church if we tried (and we’re definitely not going to)!  He loves coming to the church to serve, he takes it upon himself to go to the downtown rescue mission to witness, and he is incredibly passionate about everything he does for Jesus.  We have many of what we call “Logan Stories’ in our student ministry because whenever we go on a  trip….Logan does and says the craziest stuff!  Everyone knows him as a hilarious cut-up, but when this guy gets the Word of God in his hands…he’s a whole different person.  He turns into one of the most passionate preacher you’ve ever heard!! SUPER SERIES: Bringing the Book of Judges to Life

Judges Set (ppt)

The Book of Judges has been our first “super series”.  There have been so many things that have had to come together in Judges…it aint even funny!

1.  This is our first series to do set design.  We’ve been very intentional with coordinating our lighting, our logos, our slides, our handouts, and our staging to all carry the same theme.  We are going very much so with a courtroom type feel as each of our sermons are mostly preached from a desk designed just for the set.  We also have decided to put a CROSS into every set that we do, and to design it to match the rest of the set so that it is the reoccuring “prop” in every set.  We got our desk and cross idea from Mars Hill Church in Seattle where Pastor Mark Driscoll leads.  If you watch his series on 1 Peter (marshillchurch.org), then you will see where we got our ideas.  Continue reading

Parents, Students, and Blog Guests…we’re trying something new here.  So be patient with me.  I’m no actor…totally an amateur!  But here are our announcements for the week that you need to know all about da CBSM!  Trust me, I know I look like a dork, act like a dork, and talk like a dork on here.  I actually smell like a dork, too, but that doesn’t come through the video.

I got another shot to preach this Sunday morning since my pastor was out of town.  It was one of those Sundays where I thought I did just an average job, but our very gracious church was very encouraging about it.  But its definitely not about my performance, encouragement, or rating how I did…its all about how God uses His preached Word.  I would much rather preach a pitiful sermon where I look stupid and God use it in huge ways than me “do my best” and there be very little fruit.  Anyways, it was a huge honor to communicate God’s Word to His people this Sunday, and my prayer is that He will continue to use it in the lives of our people in the days to come!

Our CBSM BASIC Mission Trip to Detroit, MI is one of the most important trips we do all year.  This is the trip where we train our students going into 9th grade and up for misions.  The purpose of this trip is to introduce, train, and give basic opportunities to our students to grow in the areas of missions and evangelism.  In the morning is a teaching and “role play” time, the afternoons are filled with awesome opportunities to practice what we’ve learned, and then at night is worship services.  It really is an amazing and challeging trip for all of our students.
